Why not to buy too much baby stuff

June 6th, 2007 at 04:58 pm

DH and I have been trying to keep the baby costs down. I'll admit I've made a few impulse clothing buys (the outfits are so darn cute!). I have a friend and a SIL who are due around the same time as I am, both of whom went out and bought full (and overly full wardrobes for baby). Within the last three weeks I have had two suprise baby showers and now have so many little outfits they barely fit in the dresser! I did not expect any showers and was deeply grateful for all the kindness people showed us. It just reaffirmed for me that sometimes it pays to hold off, even when the money wants to burn a hole in your pocket!

I agree buying clothes for babies are fun. When my niece arrived last year, I went nuts.

It is fun but you have to be careful too as most of the outfits we receives were 0-3 month size and neither of my kids fit them for more than 2 weeks or so.

You would assume someone petite like my SIL would have a petite baby but she had a 10-pounder that never fit those sizes at all. Wink

moi aussi - I too went crazy when my nephew (now 8 years old) was born and boy was it fun, but that was long before the ugly law school loan...

monkeymama - thankfully the majority of clothes I got where 6 months plus. I already have everything for the layette stage. When going to baby showers in the future I am going to bypass buying anything under 6 months as I know several people who have had a 10 pound plus baby recently....
